## Synopsis

The Witch and the Beast (2024) is a Japanese seinen anime series produced by TBS and Yokohama Animation Laboratory and adapted from a manga. The story follows Guideau, a young woman cursed by a witch and forced to carry a dark secret, and Ashaf, a tall, soft-spoken man with a coffin strapped to his back who keeps his own secrets. Voiced by You Taichi as Guideau and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ashaf, the pair venture across a harsh land on a quest for vengeance, with each episode pushing them closer to a danger that could end their journey. The series is built around an uneasy partnership, where trust must be earned and every encounter with a stranger may hide a threat. Its engine is the chase for revenge, complicated by the curse that binds Guideau and the hidden history that Ashaf refuses to reveal. Told in a single season of twelve episodes, it balances episodic encounters with an accumulating mystery. The atmosphere is dark and foreboding, with brutal fights and gory moments set against a melancholic fantasy landscape. Its tone blends gritty dark fantasy with moments of wry character humor. Fans of Berserk and Made in Abyss will find resonance in its grim world, morally grey protagonists, and sense of foreboding adventure.
