## Synopsis

A Gentleman in Moscow (2024) is a British-produced historical drama limited series created by Ben Vanstone for Paramount+. Ewan McGregor plays Count Alexander Rostov, an aristocrat stripped of his fortune after the Russian revolution and banished by a Soviet tribunal to a garret room in an opulent Moscow hotel. Mary Elizabeth Winstead appears as Anna Urbanova, and Johnny Harris as Osip Glebnikov, two figures whose orbit pulls against the Count's quiet confinement. The engine of the series is the daily negotiation of a man with almost nothing left: he must find work, keep his dignity, and make a life among hotel staff, guests and old acquaintances while the state tightens its grip outside. Each episode unfolds in the rooms and corridors of the hotel, with small domestic crises mixed into the larger political pressures of the Soviet state. Told across a single eight-episode run, the story is a patient, character-driven piece rather than a plot-heavy thriller. Its tone is wry, warm and melancholic, with a dignified humor that refuses to become bleak. Fans of The Grand Budapest Hotel, Chernobyl and Downton Abbey will find a similar blend of elegant period detail, political unease and humane wit.
