## Synopsis

Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes (2022) is a American true crime docuseries created by Joe Berlinger for Netflix. This three-episode miniseries, each about an hour long, is built almost entirely around recorded interviews in which serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer speaks candidly about his crimes, his urges, and his own account of events, with his voice carrying the emotional weight of the viewing. The engine of the series is the unsettling gap between what he says and what the record shows, as the program lays his words beside the testimony of people who lived near him and the experts who examined him. Neighbors Vernell Bass and Pamela Bass, forensic psychiatrists Fred Berlin and Park Dietz, and Milwaukee Sentinel reporter James Causey offer context, while a friend of a victim, Michael Ross, speaks to the human cost. Set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, across the 1980s and early 1990s, the series moves with a measured, sober pace, dense with dread and moral discomfort rather than spectacle. Its tone is bleak and clinical, and it is a careful, uncomfortable study of violence, institutional failure, and how a predator went unseen. Viewers drawn to Making a Murderer, Mindhunter, and The Staircase will recognize its investigative documentary register and its focus on real lives behind a headline case.
