## Synopsis

The Sopranos (1999-2007) is an American prestige crime drama created by David Chase for HBO. James Gandolfini stars as Tony Soprano, a New Jersey Italian-American mob boss who struggles to keep the demands of his criminal organization from wrecking his home life. Edie Falco plays his wife Carmela, Michael Imperioli plays his cousin and protege Christopher Moltisanti, and Lorraine Bracco plays Jennifer Melfi, the psychiatrist whose weekly sessions with Tony give the series its recurring interior window. Across six seasons and 86 episodes, the story unfolds as one continuing serialized saga, with each episode built from family dinners, rival crews, extortion, and the constant friction between loyalty and self-preservation. The atmosphere is tense and darkly comic, mixing brutal violence with sardonic humor and melancholy. Set in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century suburbs and diners of northern New Jersey, the show feels like a grounded modern mafia opera. Fans of The Godfather, Goodfellas, The Wire and Breaking Bad will find resonance in its morally compromised protagonist, its patient character study, and its unflinching look at power and family.
