## Synopsis

Man on Pause (2022) is a Turkish comedy-drama series created by Engin Günaydın for Netflix. Günaydın also plays Yusuf, a family man in his fifties who, struggling with the onset of andropause, becomes fixated on change and resolves to pursue happiness, only to bungle the attempt completely. Derya Karadaş plays Meryem, his wife, and Tamer Karadağlı plays Halit, with Turgut Tunçalp as Mahmut Timuçin, Gülçin Santırcıoğlu as Şahinde, and Şebnem Hassanisoughi as Fadime rounding out the principal cast. The engine of the show is the gap between Yusuf's grand plans for reinvention and the messy consequences those plans have for his household, friends and extended family. Each of its six roughly forty-five-minute episodes follows a fresh misstep, so the comedy grows out of small domestic disasters rather than a larger plot. The series is a single completed season, and its tone is wry, warm and self-deprecating, with an undercurrent of midlife melancholy. Viewers who enjoy the awkward social mishaps of Curb Your Enthusiasm, the family-centred humour of Modern Family, or the bittersweet midlife unease of Louie will find resonance here.
