## Synopsis

Gannibal (2022-2025) is a Japanese folk horror crime series created by Masaaki Ninomiya and Shinzo Katayama for Disney+. Police officer Daigo Agawa (Yuya Yagira) moves his wife Yuki (Riho Yoshioka) and daughter to the remote mountain village of Kuge, hoping to recover from a disastrous incident at his previous post. The village's quiet routines soon crack when an old woman's body turns up and the locals insist a bear attacked her, yet Daigo spots a human bite mark. Keisuke Goto (Show Kasamatsu) and the rest of the Goto family stand at the center of the community's closing ranks, and each episode peels back another layer of cover-up while the disappearance of an earlier officer lingers. Told across two seasons and fifteen episodes, the show is a serialized, slow-burn investigation in which every discovery deepens the unease. Its tone is dread-filled and claustrophobic, with grounded, almost documentary rural textures, and its horror comes from people rather than monsters. Fans of Midsommar, Twin Peaks and The Wicker Man will find resonance in its isolated community and creeping menace.
