## Synopsis

Families Like Ours (2024) is a Danish national-television science fiction drama miniseries created by Thomas Vinterberg and Bo Hr. Hansen for TV 2. Set in a not-too-distant future, the seven-episode limited series follows high school student Laura (Amaryllis August), whose world is shaped by a looming national evacuation as rising water levels force Denmark to prepare to leave its homes. Her quiet but urgent engine is a personal dilemma: she must choose between her divorced parents, played by Nikolaj Lie Kaas as Jacob and Paprika Steen as Fanny, and the boy she has fallen in love with, Elias (Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt). Each episode unfolds through ordinary routines of school, home, and friendship, while the looming departure of an entire nation hangs over every decision. The tone is melancholic yet tender, with a restrained, intimate atmosphere that lets grief and hope coexist. Its themes of climate displacement, family fracture, and first love give the drama its emotional weight. Viewers who enjoy quiet apocalypse stories, in the vein of Years and Years and The Leftovers, will find resonance in its blend of large-scale catastrophe and small domestic stakes.
