## Synopsis

Island (2022) is a South Korean supernatural action fantasy series created for TVING, a Korean drama in the webtoon-adapted exorcism tradition. Kim Nam-gil plays Van, a hybrid of human and monster, who joins Won Mi-ho, played by Lee Da-hee, the woman at the center of fate, and Cha Eun-woo as Kang Chan-hyuk, who becomes Johan, a man wielding God's power. Together they confront an evil that is beginning its assault on the world from the mysterious island of Jeju. Across a single season of twelve hour-long episodes, the engine is the group's shared mission to save the world while each member struggles against their own nature and the demons they must exorcise. Each episode is built around an exorcism set piece, so the fights carry much of the momentum. The early episodes carry a playful supernatural energy, with a priest character who is funny and dark at once, before the tone turns harsher and more troubling. The overall register is tense, bleak at times, and action-driven, with an uneven pace. Fans of Hellbound, Strangers from Hell and Sweet Home will find resonance in its blend of Korean supernatural drama, demonic threat and moral conflict.
