## Synopsis

Interior Chinatown (2024) is a Hulu miniseries created by Charles Yu, a satirical dramedy adapted from the novel by its creator. Jimmy O. Yang plays Willis Wu, a background character stuck in a police procedural, who tries to talk, bribe and work his way into the larger story while dealing with the strange rules of the world around him. Ronny Chieng plays Fatty Choi, and Lisa Gilroy and Chloe Bennet play detectives whose cases keep pulling Willis back into the background. Across ten episodes, the engine is simple: Willis wants a real role and keeps running into the stereotypes that cast him as a delivery boy or an extra. Each episode mixes deadpan comedy with a search for his family's buried history, moving between the precinct and the sprawling Chinatown streets. The tone is sharp, wry and reflective, with moments of melancholy and defiance. Its meta approach to television tropes and Asian American typecasting makes it a satire that rewards close attention. Fans of Atlanta and Beef, along with anyone drawn to self-aware genre parody, will find resonance here.
