## Synopsis

La promesa (2023-present) is a Spanish period soap opera series created by Josep Cister Rubio, produced by Bambú Producciones and broadcast on Netflix and La 1. Set in 1913 Spain, it follows a young woman who wins a post at the palace of La Promesa as a reward for saving the marquesses' son, while secretly plotting to avenge her mother's death and find her missing brother. Ana Garcés plays Jana, Eva Martín plays Cruz, María Castro plays Pía, and Andrea del Río plays Teresa Villamil, with the household staff and aristocratic family forming a web of rivalries and hidden loyalties. The engine is a slow accumulation of secrets: every servant's errand, dinner and whispered exchange can hide an agenda, and the protagonist must keep her true purpose concealed while moving closer to the truth. The series runs as a continuing serialized drama across five seasons so far, with long episodes that build suspense through domestic routine. Its tone is melancholic yet gripping, with the atmosphere of a decaying grand estate and the glamour of early twentieth century Spain. Fans of Downton Abbey, Gran Hotel and Velvet will find resonance in its sumptuous intrigue and soapy twists of class and loyalty.
