## Synopsis

The Wire (2002-2008) is an American crime drama series created by David Simon for HBO. Set in present-day Baltimore, it follows homicide and narcotics detectives, led by Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West), alongside Cedric Daniels (Lance Reddick) and Kima Greggs (Sonja Sohn), as they run wiretaps and surveillance against a drug organization. The targets are equally central, including Avon Barksdale (Wood Harris), Stringer Bell (Idris Elba), and Omar Little (Michael Kenneth Williams), so the story moves between the police department, the street trade, City Hall, the schools, and the newspaper room. Each season takes on a new institution, and the five-season serialized saga is built as one continuing story where patience pays off. The tone is gritty, grounded, and deliberately unhurried, with a bleak and dread-filled atmosphere in which good and evil blur and systems grind on regardless of individual effort. Fans of Homicide: Life on the Street, The Corner, and Breaking Bad will find resonance in its procedural realism and its critique of institutional decay.
