## Synopsis

Baantjer (1995-2006) is a Dutch police procedural series created for RTL 4 and adapted from the novels of A. C. Baantjer. Piet Römer plays Jurriaan 'Jurre' de Cock, a patient Amsterdam detective, alongside Victor Reinier as his helper Dick Vledder, with Serge-Henri Valcke, Hans Karsenbarg and Marian Mudder rounding out the principal cast. The engine of the show is the steady grind of homicide investigation: interviews, interrogations, forensic clues and the slow assembly of a case, with De Cock's private life supplying quiet counterweight. Running twelve seasons and 123 hour-long episodes, it works as a case-of-the-week format rather than a continuing arc, so each story stands on its own. Set in present-day Amsterdam, it moves at an unhurried pace and foregrounds atmosphere, canal-side streets and character warmth over spectacle. Its tone is serene and serious, closer to a gentle, conversation-driven mystery than an action thriller. Fans of Columbo, Inspector Morse and Van der Valk will find the same measured pleasure in patient detective work.
