## Synopsis

We Were Liars (2025) is an American scripted teen mystery drama series created by Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie for Prime Video. Adapted from the young adult novel by E. Lockhart, it follows seventeen-year-old Cadence Sinclair (Emily Alyn Lind), who returns to Beechwood, a private island off Martha's Vineyard, one year after an accident left her with amnesia. Her childhood friends known as the Liars and her first love Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) are unwilling to discuss what happened, so Cadence must reconstruct the summer through fragments, fractured recollections and pointed silences. The engine of the story is her hunt for the truth against a family that prizes appearances above all. Her wealthy relatives, including Harris Sinclair (David Morse) and Bess Sinclair (Candice King), gather for dinners and polished holidays while secrets simmer beneath the surface. The season plays as a single continuing mystery across eight episodes, with flashbacks threading through the present-day investigation. Its tone is moody and wistful, with a languid summer atmosphere tinged with dread and grief. Themes of privilege, memory and loyalty drive the drama. Fans of Pretty Little Liars, The Summer I Turned Pretty and Riverdale will find resonance in its blend of teen angst, glossy settings and buried secrets.
