## Synopsis

Bonn (2023) is a German historical espionage drama miniseries created for Das Erste, a German public broadcaster. Set in the young West Germany of the 1950s, it follows Toni Schmidt (Mercedes Müller), a determined young woman who takes what looks like an entry-level office job at one of the country's two competing secret services. Her ambition to make her own way in a male-dominated world pulls her ever deeper into a clandestine network of secrets and suspicion, with Wolfgang Berns (Max Riemelt) and Otto John (Sebastian Blomberg) among the principal figures around her. Drawn from true events, the six-episode limited series builds its engine from office politics, covert meetings, and the slow accumulation of dangerous knowledge, while a nation struggles to leave the terrors of World War II behind and reach for a normal life. The tone is tense, grounded, and quietly melancholic, with a period atmosphere of wary rebuilding. Fans of Deutschland 83, The Americans, and The Little Drummer Girl will find resonance in its postwar paranoia and its focus on ordinary people caught inside intelligence machinery.
