## Synopsis

The Closer (2005-2012) is an American police procedural created by James Duff and Michael M. Robin for TNT. Kyra Sedgwick plays Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, who transfers from Atlanta to Los Angeles to head a special LAPD unit handling sensitive, high-profile murder cases. Her quirky, hard-nosed style frequently irritates colleagues, but her reputation as one of the country's best interrogators keeps earning their grudging respect. J.K. Simmons appears as Will Pope, with Corey Reynolds as David Gabriel, G.W. Bailey as Louie Provenza and Robert Gossett as Russell Taylor rounding out the principal squad. The engine of each episode is a murder case that the unit must crack, and the drama lives in the pressure of suspect interviews, where Johnson's psychological pressure and wit do the work that evidence cannot. Across seven seasons the series keeps a single ongoing team story, moving through Los Angeles precincts, bureau politics and tense late-night interrogation rooms. Its tone is brisk and sardonic, with a steady undercurrent of professional rivalry and personal friction. Fans of Law & Order and Monk will find similar pleasures in its case-driven structure and sharp, unconventional detective at the center.
