## Synopsis

The Days (2023) is a Japanese limited series created for Netflix, adapted from a novel and grounded in real events. Koji Yakusho plays Masao Yoshida, who leads the crew at Fukushima Daiichi as they face an unprecedented nuclear accident, while Yutaka Takenouchi plays Maekawa and Fumiyo Kohinata plays Azuma among the workers trying to keep the reactors under control. The engine of the story is a race against an invisible threat: engineers, operators, and managers must work through damaged systems, scarce information, and rising radiation while outside pressure mounts and the public begins to assign blame. Across one eight-episode season of roughly fifty-five minutes each, the miniseries builds its tension through technical decisions and quiet moments between characters rather than melodrama. Set in 2011 Japan, it moves through the tsunami-stricken coastal plant and the strained command rooms around it, with a tone that is sober, austere, and emotionally weighty. Viewers drawn to restrained real-events drama will find resonance with Chernobyl and Deepwater Horizon, both of which dramatize industrial catastrophe with similar seriousness and attention to procedure.
