## Synopsis

Rain Dogs (2023) is a US-produced dark comedy drama series created by Cash Carraway for HBO, a single season of eight short episodes running about 28 minutes each. Daisy May Cooper plays Costello Jones, a working-class single mother raising her young daughter Iris, played by Fleur Tashjian, while Jack Farthing plays Selby, a privileged gay man whose life becomes tangled with theirs. Ronke Adekoluejo appears as Gloria Duke, adding another vital presence to the household. The engine of the show is the push and pull between Costello's fierce, improvised devotion to her daughter and the constant pressure of money, prejudice and missed chances, with each episode built from small domestic crises, friendships that run deep and quarrels that flare fast. The show is a wild and punky tale rather than a tidy sitcom, carrying a sharp, scrappy energy. Its tone mixes raucous humour with a bruised emotional core, and its theme is talent thwarted by poverty and prejudice. Viewers who enjoy Shameless, Fleabag and Please Like Me will find kinship in its candid, irreverent take on messy love and chosen family.
