## Synopsis

Pride and Prejudice (1995) is a British period romance miniseries created by Andrew Davies for BBC One, a six-episode adaptation of Jane Austen's novel. Jennifer Ehle plays the sharp-witted Elizabeth Bennet, the second of five unmarried sisters whose mother, played by Alison Steadman, is desperate to see them married well. Colin Firth stars as the wealthy, status-conscious Mr. Darcy, whose early disdain for local society sets him at constant odds with Elizabeth. Susannah Harker plays the gentle eldest sister Jane, whose romance with the amiable Charles Bingley, played by Crispin Bonham-Carter, offers a warmer counterpoint. Benjamin Whitrow and Adrian Lukis round out the household and the rival suitor Mr. Wickham.
