## Synopsis

Rematch (2024) is a French-produced historical drama miniseries created by Yan England, André Gulluni and Bruno Nahon for ARTE. Across six hour-long episodes, it dramatizes the 1997 chess showdown between world champion Garry Kasparov, played by Christian Cooke, and IBM's supercomputer Deep Blue. Cooke's Kasparov is driven by pride and the need to prove that human intuition still matters, while the IBM team and their pressures tighten around him as the match draws near. Each episode builds the tension of the board, the strategy sessions and the psychological games, with supporting characters around the champion, including Trine Dyrholm as Klara Kasparova and Aidan Quinn as Roger Laver, adding personal and professional stakes. The story moves between the chessboard, the hotel rooms and the corporate boardrooms where a machine's success carries enormous weight. The tone is tense, cerebral and quietly melancholic, with a sober, grounded look at a moment when artificial intelligence first seemed capable of beating humanity at its own game. Fans of Chernobyl, Borg McEnroe and The Social Network will find resonance in its true-events drama and rivalry-driven pressure.
