## Synopsis

Monique Olivier: Accessory to Evil (2023) is a French true crime documentary miniseries released on Netflix. Its five episodes of roughly 42 minutes each follow the case of Michel Fourniret, France's most notorious murderer, whose crimes ran from 1987 to 2003. The series focuses on his wife, Monique Olivier, whose role in the killings remains an enigma. Through interviews with investigators, journalists, lawyers and others connected to the case, the documentary asks whether she was a pawn manipulated by her husband or a willing participant in his crimes. The engine of the series is this unsettling question, pursued through the testimony and the reconstruction of the investigation. Each episode moves methodically through the evidence, building a portrait of a domestic partnership that concealed a long pattern of violence. The tone is sober, grim and investigative, with an atmosphere of unease that lingers over the case. Fans of The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst and Making a Murderer will find the same blend of criminal inquiry and moral ambiguity. It is a compact, serious watch for viewers drawn to true crime that examines the people standing beside a killer.
