## Synopsis

El Soffara (2023) is an Egyptian scripted science fiction comedy series created by Mahmoud Ezzat and Ahmed Amin, broadcast on MBC Shahid. Its single season of fifteen episodes, each running about thirty-seven minutes, follows Shafiq, a tour guide who steals the time travel whistle belonging to Tutankhamun. Ahmed Amin plays Shafiq as a restless everyman eager to rewrite his life and chase his dreams. Taha Desouky plays Wageeh, one of his circle, while Aya Samaha plays Sherine and Maria Osama plays Karma, providing the emotional anchors that complicate each attempted do-over. The engine of the show is simple and playful: every time Shafiq uses the whistle to revisit a past moment, the consequences ripple through his ordinary present in Cairo, turning small errors into comic chaos. Mahmoud El-Bezzawy appears as Shafiq's late father, lending a wistful undercurrent to the reinvention fantasy. The tone is breezy and warm, with light absurdity and gentle reflection on regret and ambition. Fans of Back to the Future and the playful do-over comedy of Russian Doll will find a similar appeal, although this Arabic-language series keeps its focus on everyday Egyptian life and a single pharaonic artifact.
