## Synopsis

Bookie (2023-2025) is an American comedy series created by Nick Bakay and Chuck Lorre for Max. Sebastian Maniscalco stars as Danny Colavito, a veteran bookie in Los Angeles who struggles to stay afloat as sports gambling moves toward legalization. Omar J. Dorsey plays his associate Rayfield 'Ray' Ballard, and Andrea Anders and Vanessa Ferlito play the women in Danny's household, whose demands pull him away from the trade. Each episode follows the scramble to keep his bets, debts and clients in order while unstable customers, relatives and co-workers keep turning up at the worst moments. The show runs two seasons of eight half-hour episodes, a compact serialized comedy rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its setting is contemporary Los Angeles, moving between wealthy neighborhoods and rougher corners of the city. The tone is crude, irreverent and sardonic, with a streetwise energy and frequent profanity, drug use and adult humor. Themes of an outdated livelihood, fading masculinity and the pressure of family obligation give the jokes an edge. Fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage and Ray Donovan will find a similar mix of hustler swagger and sharp, unforgiving comedy here.
