## Synopsis

Emergency: NYC is an eight-episode American documentary miniseries from 2023, a Netflix docuseries created by Ruthie Shatz and Adi Barash and produced by Yulari Films. It follows frontline medical professionals working in New York City emergency departments and related units, tracking how the punishing rhythm of their shifts collides with the demands of their private lives. Rather than a scripted plot, the engine is access: cameras stay with staff through crises, split-second decisions, and the emotional aftermath, so each episode is built from a sequence of real cases and the personal stakes that follow them home. The city itself supplies the pressure, with overflowing waiting rooms, sirens, and a constant stream of patients who need care immediately. The tone is intense, sober, and humane, moving between adrenaline-fast emergency sequences and quieter interviews where workers reflect on fatigue, family, and resilience. Its shape is a single short season that works as a self-contained portrait rather than a continuing narrative. Viewers who appreciate observational medical storytelling in the vein of Code Black and 24 Hours in A&E will find the same urgency and empathy here, grounded in real New York hospital life.
