## Synopsis

Monster Rancher (1999-2001) is a Japanese animated family adventure series created for TBS and ANIMAX, adapted from the popular monster-raising video game. A boy named Genki, a devoted fan of the Monster Rancher games, is unexpectedly transported into the game world, where he meets Holly and a band of creatures including Mochi, Suezo, Golem, Tiger and Hare. The group sets out on a quest across a colorful fantasy landscape to find a way to revive the Phoenix, the only creature able to stop the sinister Moo. The engine of each episode is the cheerful pursuit of that goal, with monster companions bantering, battling rivals and gathering clues along the way. The series runs three seasons and seventy-three episodes, a serialized journey with episodic adventures that keep the light, playful mood. Its tone is gentle and whimsical, carried by a warm sense of friendship and wonder. Fans of Pokémon, Digimon Adventure and Avatar: The Last Airbender will find similar pleasures in creature companionship and fantasy quests in a Japanese television tradition of kid friendly anime.
