## Synopsis

The Trigger (2024) is a French sports drama series created by Éric Benzekri for Canal+, a six-episode limited series. Nina Meurisse plays Sam Berger, a brilliant but emotionally unstable public relations fixer hired by a Paris football club to contain a crisis after star player Fodé Thiam (Alassane Diong) violently headbutts his coach and hurls a racist slur at him. Sam's engine is simple and urgent: every hour brings new leaks, angry demands to exclude the player from the squad, and pressure from the club's management and owners, including Benjamin Biolay as François Marens, to protect the team's future. Each episode is built around the fallout of the scandal, with the glossy world of celebrity footballers, sponsors and backroom deals pressing against private loyalties and family pressures. Ana Girardot plays Marie Kinsky, adding another layer of institutional calculation to the story. The tone is tense, glossy and morally uneasy, with the atmosphere of a party gone sour and an image machine grinding at full speed. Fans of Scandal, Ballers and Spin will find resonance in its blend of crisis handling, media manipulation and power intrigue, set in a contemporary French football world where reputation is currency and every public statement carries a risk.
