Audiences find The Gryphon an original, creative German fantasy horror series with handsome world-building, though its creature effects can look cheap.

## Synopsis

The Gryphon (2023) is a German fantasy horror series created by Sebastian Marka and Erol Yesilkaya for Prime Video. Mark (Jeremias Meyer) is pulled into a dark struggle when the Gryphon, a power from another world, threatens his family and friends. Alongside his circle, including Memo (Zoran Pingel), Becky (Lea Drinda) and Petra (Sabine Timoteo), he must accept a heavy family legacy and fight to keep the creature's clutches away from the people he loves. The series runs for a single six-episode season of roughly fifty-eight minutes each, so it moves quickly and treats its supernatural conflict as one continuing story. Set in a present-day German setting, it blends gothic horror atmosphere with fantasy mythology, drawing on the eerie, foreboding textures of Lovecraftian dread and the wonder of classic portal fantasy. Its tone is dark and tense, with creature effects that sometimes show their budget but a strong sense of mood and inherited burden. Fans of Dark and Stranger Things will find a similar pull between family history and supernatural peril, and viewers who enjoy German genre television will feel at home.
