## Synopsis

Os Normais (2001-2003) is a Brazilian sitcom created by Fernanda Young and Alexandre Machado for TV Globo. Fernanda Torres plays Vanilce Alencar, called Vani, and Luiz Fernando Guimarães plays Rui Muniz dos Santos Oliveira, the couple at the center of a three-season, 71-episode run of short domestic comedies. The engine of the series is the gap between how ordinary their life together appears and how much they resent each other and themselves. Each episode of roughly twenty-seven minutes unpacks a small grievance about money, sex, friends, family and daily routine, with the pair turning on one another in quick, cutting exchanges. The tone is frank and sardonic, with black humor and blunt talk about sexuality that feels unusually candid for Brazilian network television. Its strength lies in the sharp writing and the lead actors' rhythm, which make the couple's bickering feel recognizable rather than cruel. Set in contemporary urban Brazil, the show reads as a grounded portrait of middle-class domestic life. Fans of Mad About You, Till Death and Girls will find a similar appetite for marital honesty and awkward intimacy.
