## Synopsis

Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night (2024) is a Japanese animated slice of life series created for TOKYO MX and BS11, produced by Doga Kobo and King Records. Set in the crowded streets of present day Shibuya, Tokyo, it follows four young women, an artist, a retired idol, a V-tuber and a composer, who band together as JELEE, an anonymous artist group. Among the principal voices are Mahiru Kozuki (Miku Ito), Kano Yamanouchi (Rie Takahashi) and Kiui Watase (Miyu Tomita), whose lives intertwine as they chase creative work under a shared veil of anonymity. The engine of the series is the tension between wanting to be seen and the fear of being known, played out through graffiti walls, music sessions and the daily negotiations of young adulthood in a fast city. Told across a single twelve episode season of about twenty four minutes each, it is a contained, character driven story rather than a case of the week format. The tone is gentle yet wistful, with a hopeful, music filled atmosphere and a sincere look at female friendship and coming of age. Fans of BECK, Bocchi the Rock! and Sound! Euphonium will find resonance in its warmth and its portrait of young creators finding their voice.
