## Synopsis

Ōoku: The Inner Chambers (2023) is a Japanese animated alternate history drama series produced by Studio Deen for Netflix and adapted from a long-running manga. Set in an alternate Edo period Japan, the story follows a society where a plague has nearly wiped out the male population, so eligible men are taken into the walls of the Ooku as concubines to the woman shogun. Madenokōji Arikoto, voiced by Mamoru Miyano, stands among the men caught in this reversed order, while Eriko Matsui voices Tokugawa Iemitsu, whose authority shapes the palace.
