## Synopsis

Hysteria! (2024) is an American Peacock thriller series created by Matthew Scott Kane, set in a small town during the Satanic Panic of the late 1980s. When a beloved varsity quarterback vanishes, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts sees an opportunity: the town's sudden fascination with the occult can be turned into a reputation as a Satanic metal act. Julie Bowen plays Linda Campbell, a mother whose anxieties grow alongside the town's fear, while Emjay Anthony plays her son Dylan Campbell, and Bruce Campbell appears as Chief Dandridge, the local lawman caught up in the panic. Anna Camp, Garret Dillahunt as The Reverend, and Milly Shapiro round out a cast drawn into the escalating chaos. The engine of the series is the band's gamble: every stunt that wins them attention pulls them closer to a bizarre run of murders, kidnappings and reported supernatural activity. Across one eight-episode season, the show plays as a coming of age mystery with a sharp, ironic edge. Its tone blends tense thriller beats with eighties nostalgia, leather-studded excess and dark comedy about how quickly a community turns on its own. Fans of Stranger Things, The Crucible and Fear Street will find resonance in its small town dread, teen outsiders and the paranoid hunt for a scapegoat.
