## Synopsis

The Patients of Dr. García (2023) is a Spanish national-television historical drama series created for La 1, produced by Diagonal TV, DeAPlaneta and TVE, adapted from a novel. Javier Rey plays Dr. Guillermo García, an idealistic physician whose quiet life in Madrid changes when he shelters a wounded spy. Tamar Novas plays Manuel Arroyo, Verónica Echegui plays Amparo Priego and Eva Llorach plays Clara Stauffer, each drawn into the risks and loyalties that follow. The engine of the story is the tension between a doctor's duty to heal and the danger of hiding a fugitive under a regime that watches everyone. Each episode builds around patients who arrive at the clinic with secrets, and the threads tighten as the cost of resistance grows. The series runs for a single season of ten hour-long episodes, a single continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Set in 1936 Madrid and the years of the postwar Franco regime, it carries a period drama texture of gray streets, cramped rooms and whispered conversations. Its tone is sober and humane, with melancholic and tense moments balanced by quiet acts of courage. Fans of Cuéntame cómo pasó, Babylon Berlin and The Knick will find resonance in its blend of intimate personal stakes and the wider political violence of an authoritarian era.
