## Synopsis

Desperate Lies (2024) is a Brazilian Netflix drama series created by Angela Chaves and produced by A Fábrica, a single-season limited series of seventeen episodes. Juliana Paes stars as Liana, a woman who finds herself pregnant with twins by two different men, and Vladimir Brichta plays Tomás, one of the men tied to her future. Felipe Abib as Oscar and Palomma Duarte as Silvia add further pressure to a web of marriages and loyalties. The engine of the story is Liana's effort to keep her family united while her secrets threaten to surface, so each episode turns on a new risk of exposure, a fresh betrayal, or a confrontation between partners who half suspect the truth. Its shape is that of a single continuing soap opera arc rather than a case-of-the-week format, with melodrama driving every twist. Set in contemporary Brazil, the series unfolds among middle-class households, with its emotional register pitched at heated, intimate, and often anguished tones. Its mood blends romantic tension with domestic suspense, and it draws on the traditions of the telenovela and Brazilian soap opera. Viewers who enjoy long-form relationship melodrama, the tangled loyalties of Verdades Secretas, or the family upheaval of Pantanal will find similar pleasures here.
