## Synopsis

Due South (1994-1999) is a Canadian crime comedy-drama series created by Paul Haggis for CTV. Constable Benton Fraser of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, played by Paul Gross, is attached to the Canadian consulate in Chicago but keeps working cases alongside Detective Ray Vecchio, played by David Marciano, whose partnership with the earnest, polite Mountie forms the heart of the show. Harding Welsh, played by Beau Starr, is the gruff superior who keeps the pair in check, while Callum Keith Rennie plays Stanley Kowalski, a recurring figure in the Chicago underworld. Each episode is largely a case-of-the-week investigation, with crimes solved through Fraser's analytical mind and unshakable sense of decency against the grit of a big American city. The four seasons, spanning 66 episodes, keep a light, warm register that blends absurd culture-clash humor with sincere affection for its characters. Fans of Northern Exposure, Moonlighting and Hart to Hart will find resonance in its quirky, character-led crime storytelling and offbeat charm, a gentle, witty comfort watch for viewers who enjoy a buddy cop pairing with a fish out of water edge.
