## What critics say

Critics and viewers broadly praise Deadloch as a sharp, bloody, gleefully feminist small town murder satire with a standout pairing of detectives, though some find its male characters too broadly drawn.

## Synopsis

Deadloch (2023-2026) is an Australian satirical crime comedy created by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan for Prime Video. Two vastly different women detectives, Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami), are thrown together to solve the murder of a local man in the sleepy seaside hamlet of Deadloch. Their mismatched partnership drives the engine of the show: each investigation pits their clashing methods against a town of eccentric locals, suspicious neighbours and bumbling male officials. Abbie Matsuda (Nina Oyama) and Cath York (Alicia Gardiner) round out the principal cast, while Pamela Rabe and Tom Ballard appear as recurring figures in the community. The show is structured as a two-season serialized murder mystery, with the central case carrying across episodes and the second season moving the investigation from Tasmania to the tropical north. The mood is sardonic and irreverent, mixing gallows humour with bloody set pieces and sharp commentary on gender and small town power. Fans of Fisk, Broadchurch and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will find the same blend of odd couple chemistry and wry social satire. The series is rated TV-MA and aired on Prime Video with fourteen episodes across two seasons.
