## Synopsis

Kohlrabenschwarz (2023) is a German crime mystery miniseries created by Tommy Krappweis and Christian von Aster, produced for BR Fernsehen and Paramount+. Michael Kessler plays psychologist Stefan Schwab, a burned-out man who, after overwork, burnout and divorce, travels to the quiet foothills of the Alps hoping to find the Bavarian peace known as the Boarische Rua. That calm is denied him when he is reluctantly drawn into a bloody awakening of ancient legends. Children vanish and figures labeled as sinners are murdered, and the old stories suddenly carry deadly weight in the community. Bettina Lamprecht plays Anna Leitner, and Axel Milberg plays Polizeidirektor Eberhard Kroiss, whose official inquiry collides with local superstition. The six-episode run plays out as one continuing story across a single season, with a mix of murder investigation and dark comedy. Its tone is macabre and unsettling yet wry, with rural Bavarian atmosphere doing much of the work. Fans of Dark, Twin Peaks and the folk horror strain of German regional thrillers will find resonance here.
