## Synopsis

The Storks Will Return (2007-2008) is a Serbian comedy drama series created by Goran Bjelogrlić, Dragan Bjelogrlić and Branimir Brstina for TV B92. Petty Belgrade hustlers Svaba, played by Nikola Đuričko, and Ekser, played by Dragan Bjelogrlić, scrape by on small scams while Svaba owes a large sum to a local big-shot criminal. Their fortunes shift when Svaba's mother inherits a house in Baranda, a village near Belgrade that nobody has heard of. The two rush there intending to sell the property and clear their debts, but the villagers greet them as serious businessmen from the city who have finally taken interest in their community. The engine of the show is this widening gap, as each scheme meets rural good nature, eccentric neighbours and the slow comedy of trying to close a deal in a place that does not operate by city rules. Across one season of twenty-five episodes, the series moves between farce and warmth, with a cast including Srđan Žika Todorović, Mira Banjac and Mirjana Karanović. Its tone is cheerful, wry and gently affectionate toward ordinary people struggling through the economic hardship of post transition Serbia. Fans of Northern Exposure, Local Hero and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels will find resonance in its mix of scheming and small town heart.
