## Synopsis

Evil (2023) is a Swedish miniseries created by Fredrik T Olsson and Jan Guillou for TV4 Hits, adapted from Guillou's novel Ondskan. The six-episode drama follows sixteen-year-old Erik Ponti (Isac Calmroth), a boy hardened by violence at home under his abusive stepfather Åke (Gustaf Skarsgård) and in the schoolyard. Expelled from a Stockholm school, Erik is sent to the strict boarding school Stjernsberg, his last chance to finish his education and break from his past. There he finds the cruelty of the institution is worse than anything he left behind, and he forms a forbidden romance with Marja (Thea Sofie Loch Næss), a member of the kitchen staff. Each episode builds the pressure of a boy trying to hold himself together against a system that rewards brutality. Set in 1950s Sweden, the series unfolds in the cold, claustrophobic corridors of an elite school, with its tone bleak, tense and emotionally raw. Its mood of oppression and quiet defiance will resonate with fans of The Chosen, Adolescence and Kids These Days, as well as viewers drawn to Swedish prestige drama. Evil is a tightly focused, harrowing watch about survival, shame and the fragile hope of escape.
