## Synopsis

Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators (2023) is a US documentary docuseries created for Netflix. Across five 45-minute episodes, this limited docuseries revisits the stunt-filled competition show that thrilled audiences in the 1990s, drawing on the perspectives of former performers who played characters such as Nitro (Danny Lee Clark), Gemini (Michael M. Horton), Blaze (Sha-Ri Pendleton) and Ice (Lori Fetrick). Rather than presenting a glossy tribute, the series digs into the grueling physical demands of staging televised strongman spectacle, the backstage choices that shaped the show's identity, and the near-collapse that threatened it before its first season could find its footing. Each episode moves through archival broadcast clips and candid interviews, building a portrait of a format that was campy, earnest and physically ambitious at once. The tone balances affectionate nostalgia with a clear-eyed look at the pressures of performing as a televised athlete. The result is a compact, insider-driven history of American television culture, suited to viewers who enjoyed the original broadcasts or who are drawn to behind the scenes sports entertainment stories. Fans of The Last Dance and Tiger King will find a similar appetite for insider reckonings with a bygone pop culture phenomenon.
