## Synopsis

Out of This World (1987-1991) is an American fantasy sitcom created by John Boni and Bob Booker and produced by Bob Booker Productions and MCA Television. It first aired in syndication after a stint in NBC's Prime Time Begins at 7:30 campaign. Maureen Flannigan plays Evie Ethel Garland, a half alien teenage girl whose supernatural powers, including the ability to freeze time, regularly complicate her ordinary home life. Donna Pescow plays her mother Donna Garland, and Burt Reynolds appears as Troy Garland, grounding the household comedy in familiar family dynamics. Doug McClure, Joe Alaskey and Steve Burton fill out the cast around them. Each episode is a self-contained twenty-one minute story in which a magical mishap or a secret threatens to expose Evie to her classmates and neighbors, and the family must improvise a way out. Across four seasons and ninety-six episodes, the show runs on bright, light-hearted gags, sitcom mugging and wholesome slapstick rather than darker stakes. It moved to weekend slots after its first season and was cancelled after the fourth. Fans of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Mork and Mindy and I Dream of Jeannie will find resonance in its gentle supernatural comedy and family-centered humor.
