## What critics say

Widely regarded as a landmark of anthology television, praised for its writing and twist endings, though its dated effects and uneven later revivals draw criticism.

## Synopsis

This horror anthology presents a fresh supernatural tale in every episode, with no recurring cast or continuing storyline to follow. Each story builds an atmosphere of dread around haunted houses, cursed objects, vengeful spirits, and uncanny happenings, then delivers a sharp final turn that often reframes what the viewer has just seen. The tone sits between genuine unease and playful theatricality, with eerie set pieces, heightened performances, and a wry sense of fate that keeps the mood from becoming purely grim. Because every installment stands alone, the show suits viewers who want quick, satisfying scares without committing to a long arc, and its mix of shivers and dark humor rewards those who enjoy stories where ordinary people wander into extraordinary, unforgiving circumstances. Episodes move briskly, so the format rewards short viewing sessions as well as marathon nights. Themes of guilt, greed, and retribution recur across the stories, giving the collection a moral undercurrent beneath its frights. Fans of classic campfire-style ghost tales will find the same pleasure here: the thrill of a story told well, a creeping sense of inevitability, and a closing sting that lingers after the credits roll.
