## Synopsis

Lazarus (2025) is a Japanese-American adult animated science fiction series created by Shinichiro Watanabe, a Sola Entertainment and MAPPA production co-produced for Adult Swim. Set in 2052, it follows Axel, a fugitive freshly released from prison, who is recruited into a special force of agents nicknamed Lazarus. The team is assembled to hunt the malevolent villain known as Skinner, who is spreading Hapna, a supposed cure-all neuroscience drug that carries a hidden lethal side effect striking years after use. Axel is joined by Doug, Christine, Leland, Eleina and the commander Hersch, voiced by Mamoru Miyano, Makoto Furukawa, Maaya Uchida, Yuma Uchida, Manaka Iwami and Megumi Hayashibara. The engine of the thirteen-episode single season is a race against a slow global catastrophe, with each episode pairing covert missions through neon-lit cities with the team's uneasy trust and the grim question of who can be believed. The tone is sleek, tense and brooding, with stylish action sequences grounded in a paranoid near future. Fans of Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Altered Carbon will find resonance in its blend of anime craft, conspiracy and noir-tinged action.
