## Synopsis

Midsummer Night (Midtsommernatt, 2024) is a Norwegian limited series created for Netflix, a five-episode family drama built around a traditional midsummer gathering. Pernilla August plays Carina, a matriarch who invites her family together for the holiday, and Dennis Storhøi plays Johannes, a relative whose place in the household carries its own tensions. Yngvild Støen Grotmol appears as Psykologen, and Christopher Wollter plays Håkan, adding further pressure within the circle. The engine of the story is simple and domestic: a happy occasion, with its ritual meals, bonfire preparations, and close quarters, slowly turns sour as long-held secrets begin to surface and each family member must decide what to conceal and what to admit. Each of the five short episodes deepens the unease without spectacle, letting small gestures and half-spoken accusations carry the weight. Told in a compact, single-thread structure, the series moves through one long summer evening and its aftermath. The tone is intimate, uneasy and quietly devastating, with the bright light of the Nordic summer contrasting with the dread beneath. Fans of The Celebration, Big Little Lies and the chamber-style Scandinavian family dramas will find resonance in its grounded emotional register.
