## Synopsis

Attila (2001) is an American historical war miniseries created for USA Network. Gerard Butler plays the Hun king Attila, a charismatic conqueror whose ambition drives the story, opposite Powers Boothe as the Roman general Flavius Aetius, a commander trying to hold together a crumbling empire. Reg Rogers plays the emperor Valentinian, and Alice Krige plays Placida, whose court intrigue shapes Rome's response. The engine of the story is a contest of wills: a warlord who wants to bend the world to his command, and Roman leaders who must choose between shaky alliances and open battle. Told across two long episodes totaling about three hours, it is a single continuous story rather than a case-of-the-week format, built around sweeping battlefield set pieces, political maneuvering in palaces and camps, and the personal loyalties that fracture under pressure. Set in the waning days of the Western Roman Empire during the Hun invasions of Europe, it carries a gritty, sweeping, somber tone with spectacle and violence. Fans of Rome and The Tudors will find resonance in its period grandeur and power struggles, and viewers of Vikings will recognize its barbarian-versus-civilization tension.
