## Synopsis

Joan of Arc (1999) is a American two-part historical biopic miniseries broadcast on CBS. Leelee Sobieski plays Joan, a peasant girl from Domrémy who hears the voices of saints and is urged by the Dauphin Charles (Neil Patrick Harris) to claim the French kingship and drive out the English. Her skeptical captain La Hire (Peter Strauss) and her grim father Jacques (Powers Boothe) test her resolve as she inspires an army against the invaders. Each episode runs ninety minutes and follows the ascent of a young visionary through battles, royal court intrigue, and the religious pressures of her age. The engine is faith against institutional power: a teenager with a mission must persuade hardened soldiers and suspicious clergy that her visions are real. The tone is earnest and reverent, with sweeping battlefield spectacle and a melancholic undercurrent of war's cost. Set in fifteenth century France during the Hundred Years' War, it reads as a prestige period drama in the tradition of Braveheart and Elizabeth R, suited to viewers who enjoy historical epics about legendary figures.
