## Synopsis

The Atypical Family (2024) is a South Korean superhero drama series created by Kang Eun-kyung for JTBC. Across twelve roughly seventy-minute episodes in a single season, a household whose members were once blessed with unusual powers finds those gifts eroded by the pressures of modern life, from insomnia and depression to money troubles. Jang Ki-yong plays Bok Gwi-ju, a family member whose abilities have dimmed, while Chun Woo-hee plays Do Da-hae, a woman who arrives with a mysterious agenda that unsettles the household. Goh Doo-shim, Claudia Kim, Park So-i, and Ryu Abel fill out the family, each carrying private wounds that surface as the cohabitation grows tense and then tender. The engine of the show is the slow reconstruction of a damaged family under one roof, with each episode balancing supernatural curiosity against domestic friction. The tone is warm and wistful, with moments of humor and quiet melancholy, and the superhero trappings serve a human story about healing rather than spectacle. Fans of Heroes, Umbrella Academy, and Kingdom will find resonance in its blend of emotional Korean storytelling and fantastical premise. Its sincere character work and self-contained run make it an accessible, emotionally rich entry point for viewers who enjoy family drama with a supernatural edge.
