## Synopsis

A Grande Família (2001-2014) is a Brazilian national-television family sitcom created by Cláudio Paiva for TV Globo. Its engine is ordinary: the Silva family of Rio de Janeiro, led by patriarch Lineu Silva (Marco Nanini) and his wife Irene 'Nenê' Souza Silva (Marieta Severo), tries to hold a household together while money runs short and marriages and sibling rivalries strain. Around them orbit Pedro Cardoso as Agostinho Carrara, Guta Stresser as Isabel 'Bebel' Silva Carrara, and Lúcio Mauro Filho as Artur 'Tuco' Silva, along with neighbors and in-laws who wander in and out of the family home. Each episode is a self-contained comic vignette built from small domestic crises, so the show can be dipped into at any point. Across fourteen seasons and roughly 485 episodes, it stays a single continuing comedy with a recognizable cast rather than a rotating set of stories. The tone is joyful and affectionate, with a satirical streak that treats suburban striving with warmth. Set in a contemporary middle-class Rio suburb, it has the broad, character-driven humor of a long-running family sitcom. Fans of Everybody Loves Raymond, Married... with Children and Malcolm in the Middle will find familiar comic pleasures here, along with a distinctly Brazilian rhythm.
