## Synopsis

Beyond Goodbye (2024) is a Japanese romance drama series created by Hiroshi Kurosaki for Netflix, a single-season run of eight roughly forty-eight-minute episodes. After Saeko Sugawara, played by Kasumi Arimura, loses her fiancé in an accident, she finds herself drawn to a stranger who has received his heart and, through a twist of fate, fragments of his memories. Kentaro Sakaguchi plays Kazumasa Naruse, and Eita Okuno and Toma Ikuta round out the principal cast as men whose lives press against hers. The engine of the show is the uneasy attraction between a woman who cannot let go and a man carrying a dead partner's inner life, with each episode weighing what it means to love someone who is partly a memory. The story unfolds across contemporary Japan, with settings that include Hokkaido and a Hawaii thread. Its register is melodramatic, sorrowful and tender, leaning into longing, guilt and the ache of goodbyes that never fully end. Fans of Your Lie in April and Hotaru no Haka will find resonance in its emotional intensity and its romance shaped by loss. Audiences who want a Japanese romance that puts grief at the center will find it quietly absorbing.
