## Synopsis

La Femme Nikita (1997-2001) is an American-Canadian action spy drama that ran for five seasons and ninety-six episodes on USA Network. Peta Wilson stars as Nikita, a drug-addicted young offender who is presumed executed after a faked death and then recruited by a clandestine government organization and remade into a lethal, untraceable assassin. Roy Dupuis plays Michael, a handler and figure of her divided heart, while Matthew Ferguson plays Seymour Birkoff, a technician whose work keeps the operation running. Nikita's engine is the tension between her wish for a normal life and the missions the agency demands of her, and each episode usually delivers a self-contained assignment of infiltration, surveillance and violent extraction, all threaded through a longer arc of betrayal and shifting loyalties. The tone is taut, stylish and hard-edged, with moments of melancholy and romance cutting through the bleak procedural action. Set in a contemporary world of safe houses, sleek cities and cold corporate offices, the series sits in the lineage of espionage fiction. Fans of Alias and the original 1990 film will find resonance in its blend of spy action and fractured identity.
