## Synopsis

The Burning Girls (2023) is a British six-episode limited series created by Hans Rosenfeldt for Paramount+. Samantha Morton plays Reverend Jack Brooks, a clergywoman who moves with her daughter Flo (Ruby Stokes) to Chapel Croft, a village that promised a fresh start but soon reveals a community steeped in dark history. Alongside them stand local figures such as Lucas Wrigley (Conrad Khan) and Aaron Marsh (David Dawson), whose loyalties and secrets complicate every step the newcomers take. The engine of the story is the slow pull between a mother's need to belong and a village that treats outsiders with open suspicion, while ancient superstitions surface in quiet rituals, whispered grudges and buried family ties. Each episode peels back another layer of the community's past, building a tense, atmospheric mystery rather than a fast-paced chase. The tone is brooding and uneasy, with a rural English setting that feels isolated and watchful. Fans of Broadchurch, The Killing and The Wicker Man will find resonance in its small-community dread, its folk unease and its patient unraveling of local secrets.
