## Synopsis

Obituary (2023-2025) is an Irish dark comedy crime series created by Ray Lawlor for RTÉ One. Siobhán Cullen plays Elvira Clancy, a writer whose editor announces that she will be paid per article, and who responds by committing murders to keep herself from going broke. Her scheme is complicated by Ronan Raftery as Emerson Stafford, a crime reporter she falls for, and by Michael Smiley as Ward Clancy and David Ganly as Hughie Burns, whose presence keeps pressing on her plans. The engine of the show is practical: a freelance writer needs stories, money and cover, and each episode turns the ordinary machinery of a Dublin newsroom into a lever for another killing. Across two seasons of six episodes each, the series runs as a brisk, self-contained-yet-continuing comedy in which the emotional stakes build steadily. Detective Rose Mulcahy (Noni Stapleton) is a constant threat. The tone is wry, deadpan and morally slippery, with a sharp appetite for the absurd logic of a life lived on deadlines. Fans of Dexter, Fleabag and Killing Eve will find resonance in its blend of crime, romance and bleak humour.
